Weather in Wangkatjungka

The Kimberley region in general is subject to warm weather all year round. The majority of rain falling in the area happens during summer, in what is known as the 'wet season', starting in November and going through until about March. Very little rain, if any at all, falls during the rest of the year.

A rough guide to the high and low temperatures that can be expected here each day by season is as follows:

Summer: 25oC to 45oC
Autumn: 20oC to 40oC
Winter: 10oC to 35oC
Spring: 20oC to 52oC

In October and November 2007, we recorded temperatures over 51oC, as no reliable records have been kept in the past, there is no way of knowing if this is a record for the area, but given that the temperature hovers around the 49oC regularly, it is pretty safe to say it is not a record high temperature.

Due to frequent power surges and brown outs, much of the data since the original weather station was erected in 2004 was lost, with the exception of that which was noted by hand. Details of those records can be found here.
